7 tips and tricks for healthy and nutritious meal preparation

When I was growing into my 20s from my teens, I learnt how to become resourceful with food. It was a relationship I had managed and maintained growing through my teens. Coming from an old pit village in the north of England, food growing up was used sparingly. We say: “You get what you’re given and work with that.” Grateful and grounded we are because of it.

Here are 7 tips and tricks for healthy and nutritious meal preparation has we move into a new week.

1. If you don’t buy it in, you can’t easily reach out for it. That goes for good food as well as the not so kind to our health junk food.
Tip: Make sure you have plenty of good proteins, vegetables in to make your portions in good healthy size. Sometimes without good nutrients, we suffer a poor day.

2. Ingredients that come from either running on the ground, seeded into the ground or that swims is kind to our body.
Tip: Ensure your meals are packed with vitamins and mineral based foods that compliment your health. Fresh mineral packed foods lead to a fresh outlook on your day.

3. The greener the food, the greener your body.
Tip: Add plenty of healthy green rich foods that are packed in fibre. The traffic lights give us a good indication of when to stop and when to go. If our foods are in red, we might be asked to stop sometime soon. Ensure green is the way forward.

4. Preparation gives us the ability to reduce poor health markers.
Tip: Preparing our food for the day the night before will lead to a beneficial health outcome. Sometimes if we don’t prepare, we don’t get the outcome.

5: Imagine a plate and dissect the plate in to parts. Carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats and fibres.
Tip: Portion control will enhance self-control. We have to be in the driving seat to rev the engine.

6: Our food is our medicine.
Tip: Managing our plate and understanding what we prescribe to put on it will help alleviate disease and dietary issues we can come across over time. Just like a prescription is created for us by the doctor, what if we could create our own prescription through food to eat well for health on the daily.

7: The food we eat and prepare today designs how we proceed tomorrow.
Tip: Prepare foods full of fuel, green and healthy goodness to proceed tomorrow stronger than today. Imagine if you were given a pound for every healthy portion you had, how much could you make in a year?

Nutrition creates healthier times, healthier times create wealthier times.
